Green Signal for Jewar Metro Soon: What to Expect from the New Line

The National Capital Region (NCR) of Delhi is set to get another metro line with the Jewar Metro. The new metro line will connect the city of Greater Noida with the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in New Delhi. The project is expected to ease the transportation woes of thousands of commuters who travel between Greater Noida and Delhi every day.

How and when did it start?

The Jewar Metro project was initially announced in 2019 by the Uttar Pradesh government, and the construction work is currently underway. According to reports, the entire metro route from the proposed Noida International Airport to Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport will span 72 km in length. The initial phase of the project will cover a distance of 35.6 km, running from Jewar Airport to Greater Noida.

How does the connectivity look like?

The Jewar Metro will provide direct connectivity to the proposed Jewar International Airport, which is expected to become operational by the end of 2024. Needless to say, the Jewar metro line will provide seamless connectivity to other modes of transport, including buses and railways.

The line is anticipated to be an extension of the Delhi Metro’s Aqua Line, which currently operates between Noida and Greater Noida. The key metro stations that have been ascertained in Noida so far, include The International Film City, Techzone, Knowledge Park-2, and Noida International Airport, Jewar.

The Jewar Metro is expected to bring a significant boost to the economy of the region. The metro line will provide easy access to commercial and industrial areas in Greater Noida, Noida, and Delhi. It will also facilitate the development of real estate projects in the area.

What is the approximate costing involved?

It has been reported that the metro link between the two airports will be a high-speed rail service. Given the distance between them, the projected travel time is one hour. The total cost of the project, encompassing both phases, is estimated to be ₹13,000 crore.

The Jewar Metro project is also expected to create job opportunities for thousands of people. The construction work is already generating employment opportunities, and once the metro line becomes operational, it will provide direct and indirect employment opportunities in various sectors.
